🏖️ 10 tips to prevent sand from sticking everywhere (and finally enjoy a peaceful beach day)

Sand is kind of the best and worst thing about the beach. You put your foot down: wow, it's warm, it's vacation time. You get out of the water: you have sand on your legs, in your swimsuit, under your arms, in your towel… and sometimes even in your picnic fries 😅.

In short, if you're fed up with sand EVERYWHERE , we understand. So we've prepared 10 real, tried and tested tips to avoid turning your beach day into a hunt for that stubborn grain of sand.

And spoiler alert: some of them will completely change your life.

1. 🏖️ Choose a sand-resistant towel (like KIMA, clearly)

We'll start straight away with the basics: the towel .
You can do whatever you want, but if your towel gets stuck in the sand, you're going to have a hard time. That's why microfiber towels, like those from the KIMA brand , are just perfect.

👉 They are:

  • Sand-resistant (sand slides off, it doesn't stick)
  • Ultra lightweight (perfect for already overstuffed beach bags)
  • Stylish and trendy (let's be honest, that's important)

Basically, you lay it down, you stand up, you shake it, and bam: not a grain of sand. That's the basis of a successful beach, trust us.

🧺 Bonus tip: you can also use it to wipe yourself without getting sand on yourself again afterwards.

2. 🧼 The magic powder: talcum powder (or cornstarch)

You get out of the water, you want to dry yourself… and then disaster strikes: your wet skin catches ALL the sand.
The old wives' remedy that really works: talcum powder . Or its natural version: cornstarch (Maizena) .

👉 Instructions for use:

  • You dry your skin lightly
  • You apply a little powder (feet, legs, arms…)
  • And there you go! The sand falls all by itself. It's amazing.

💡 Perfect for children who scream when their feet are rubbed with a towel.

3. 🚿 Bring a freshwater bottle or a portable shower

The best way to remove sand is still… to rinse it off. But there isn't always a shower nearby, and you don't always want to go back in the sea.

➡️ Solution: bring a water bottle or container of clean water . Even better: a small portable shower (it costs less than €20, and it's a game-changer for families).

💡 You can use it to rinse your feet before getting in the car or before going inside the house.

4. 👡 Always wear sandals or flip-flops

Are you walking barefoot? The hot sand sticks to your feet, literally.
With flip-flops, sandals, or sandals , you avoid:

  • of having sand stuck between your toes
  • to burn your feet on the hot sand
  • to bring half the beach home

Tip: before putting them back on, rinse them with a little clean water and let them dry in the sun for a few minutes.

5. 🧺 Use a beach mat or sand-proof sheet under your towel

Even better than a sand-free towel: a filtering beach mat . You know, those woven mats that let the sand through... but don't let it rise to the surface.
→ You put your towel (KIMA 😎) on top, and you have a clean space even with children who are always moving around.

💡 You can also use an old fitted sheet : you tuck the bags or buckets into the corners to make a sort of "beach bin", and it seriously limits the sand invasion.

6. 💨 Shake everything, and often!

A classic, but you still have to think of it:
Shake out your towel, your swimsuit, your bag, your hat … regularly. Not just at the end, when everything is stuck together.
→ Do it before eating, before going home, before tidying up .

📌 And to avoid disturbing everyone around you: move away a little before shaking your gear, so as not to sand the neighbors on the towel.

7. 👙 Prefers sand-resistant (or well-fitting) swimsuits

Some fabrics catch more than others.
👉 Microfiber swimsuits or "second skin" models are perfect for preventing sand from getting trapped in the seams or linings .

🚫 Avoid swimsuits with frills, holes or knots that collect all the sand in the area.

And if sand has gotten between the linings? Rinse it in a sink with lukewarm water and rub gently with your fingers.

8. 🏄‍♀️ Avoid lying down wet directly on the sand

We've all made this mistake: getting out of the water and diving straight onto the towel. The result? You get sticky, you get sand everywhere, you complain.

👉 Simple solution: quickly dry yourself off at the beach with your KIMA towel (which won't get heavy with water), or wait a few minutes standing up to air dry. You'll see, it makes all the difference.

9. 🏖️ Put the sand away in a designated area (and not in your bag)

We have to accept a truth: a little sand will always try to find its way in.
➡️ Pack a special sand pouch in your bag (a tote bag or a dedicated plastic bag) to put:

  • the toys still sanded
  • wet jerseys
  • flip-flops full of sand

And the rest of your bag (book, glasses, phone, snack…) remains safe.

💡 Also consider putting a handheld vacuum cleaner in the trunk of your car if you regularly go on road trips to the beach.

10. 🧽 Use a soft brush for the back

For a quick clean-up after the beach, keep a soft brush or microfiber glove in the car or near the front door. A quick brushing of your calves, feet, and shoes... and goodbye to stubborn grit.

🎯 You can even find fun children's models (animal shapes or colorful ones) to motivate them to do it themselves.

💡 Bonus: Special tips for kids (because they're the champions of sticky sand)

  • Opt for one-piece swimsuits or lightweight suits that minimize chafing.
  • Place a small basin of water next to the towel so they can rinse their feet before coming back to play.
  • Give them a mission: "sand hunt." They brush, shake, and check that no one has any on them. A fun and useful game that teaches them the right things to do at the beach.

A successful beach day is also a stress-free day. And when it comes to children running around everywhere (sandy or not), prevention is better than cure.

➡️ Remember the basic rules: never swim alone, always stay in supervised areas, wear a hat, and stay hydrated. And if you want to learn more, the French Lifesaving and First Aid Federation shares lots of useful tips on seaside safety rules , whether for swimming or lifesaving techniques.

Because enjoying the beach is even better when everyone comes back safe and sound… and without sand in their eyes 😎
